What is bonding?

Adhesion is a method of firmly connecting the same or different materials together using the adhesive force generated by the adhesive on a solid surface. Bonding is divided into two types: structural bonding and non structural bonding

What are the functions of adhesive?

Adhesive adhesive relies on the interaction of adhesive interfaces to connect specific homogeneous or heterogeneous objects or devices with complex shapes through simple process methods, while endowing them with special functions such as sealing, insulation, thermal conductivity, conductivity, magnetism, filling, buffering, protection, etc. The two core elements of bonding are adhesive force and cohesive force. Adhesive force refers to the attraction between two different surfaces, while cohesive force refers to the attraction between the molecules of the material itself.

What are the common bonding methods?

1. Docking joint: It is the bonding of the ends of two substrates coated with adhesive together, with a small bonding contact area.

2. Corner joint and T-joint: It is connected by the end of one substrate and the side of another substrate. What is bonding, what are the functions of bonding adhesive, and the factors that affect the bonding effect. jpg

3. Lap joint (flat joint): It is connected by the side of the substrate, with a larger bonding area than the butt joint.

4. Socket joint: It is the process of inserting one end of the joint into the gap or hole of the other end for bonding, or using a sleeve for connection.

What are the factors that affect the bonding effect?

1. Adhesive material: surface roughness, surface cleanliness, and polarity of the material;

2. Adhesive joints: length, adhesive layer thickness, and different forms of joints;

3. Environment: The environment of the glue application site (heat/water/light/oxygen, etc.), temperature, and temperature fluctuations;

4. Adhesive: chemical structure, penetration, migration, curing method, pressure, etc;

What are the reasons for adhesive failure?

There are various reasons for adhesive failure, which require specific analysis. Common reasons include the following:

1. The adhesive does not match the substrate, such as cracking between the dehydrated ethanol and PC substrate;

2. Surface pollution: phenomena such as mold release agent affecting adhesion, flux affecting three protections, and potting poisoning;

3. Short bonding time/insufficient pressure: Insufficient pressure or holding time results in poor bonding effect;

4. Temperature/humidity influence: solvent type volatilizes quickly and structural adhesive solidifies too quickly;
